Gymnasium #9 Eighth graders

We tried a new way to Gymnasium #9 this morning. Olga helped us figure this out when she was setting up our route to her home last weekend. We get off the jitney several stops earlier at the Rechnoy Vokzal metro station. The metro is very comfortable and makes the trip 20 minutes shorter.

Today we visited an 8th grade English class. Their teacher said we should call her “Mrs. Deenah,” a shorter version of her real name. Her pupils made presentations about Siberia, Novosibirsk, Akademgorodok, the cultural sites of the area, Russian literature, and other subjects. They asked us questions about our lives in the United States: our work, our hobbies and interests, our family. It was a fast paced and energetic session.

The school is very near the most northern Metro station.
We had lunch at a Traveler’s Coffee shop—the third one we have visited here. There is not a lot of English spoken here but Bob’s language skills manage to convey what we need and get us where we need to go.

We were pleasantly surprised to find the elevator to our 6th floor apartment was working when we got home. It had been out of service over the weekend. We have been glad that we’ve been walking a lot so that we have been capable of the 94 steps up to, and down from, our apartment.

Some university students had asked Bob if he could add another class session because they had schedule conflicts. This evening he held his first Monday section. It is a smaller group and he likes the informality of it. There is more discussion which he particularly enjoys.
