Ob Sea and English books

This morning Paulina, Sasha, Olga, and Tim took us to the Ob Sea. Tim has just returned from a Pittsburgh, PA suburb where he was on a work/travel program for a few months.

We walked west on Morskoy Street until we came to the divided M52 highway. Bob describes crossing a Russian street as a “blood sport.” Certainly crossing a divided highway gets one’s adrenaline flowing.

We crossed train tracks via a pedestrian over pass and then descended many stairs to reach the beach.

We were the only ones there! The fall foliage and evergreens are reminiscent of the north shore of Lake Superior and Madeline Island.

We returned to Traveler's Coffee for refreshments. On the way, Paulina stopped at a convenience store so that she could introduce us to “surok”—a kind of cheese/milk product. It’s not cream cheese; it’s not the cottage cheese that the dictionary defines. It’s good—especially filled with strawberry preserves and covered in chocolate. At Traveler’s, Tim served the tea as he had done it in Pennsylvania. They must have loved him.

Zhenia arrived at Traveler’s while we were there. She said Chad was bringing some books for us to read. He arrived with two dense tomes of Siberian and Russian history. It’s exactly what Bob had requested!

Traveller's Coffee looks like a cool place! The picture on their website depicts a projector and screen-is that always up? Looks cool.

I miss you guys! I'm glad you've found a fun lot to adopt you!

I linked that page of the web site because of the section that shows the tops of the coffee cups: there is always some design in the foam. Your dad particularly likes it when one comes to him with a heart on top...he takes it very personally. Dad thought I was nuts to link to this web site because it is only in Russian. I just wanted to give a "feel" about the place...we think it is a cool place.
