Getting settled

#22 Pirogova Street has 120 apartments. Ours is #22--we are the 6th balcony from the bottom, at the far end.

Bob is standing at the entrance to the building for apartments 1 - 40.

We are learning our way through the paths in the woods. It’s lovely even in the rain. Fall colors are beginning. Leaves are falling. There are so many birch trees, a national symbol of Russia. Though it rained most of the day, it’s not cold so it’s not bothersome.

We walked around the main street of Akademgorodok to get some sense of where we are. We will try to expand our wanderings each day. This flower garden is on Ulitsa Ilicha, near the department store and a grocery store on one of Akademgorodok's main streets.

Housekeeping chores today: Grocery store for laundry soap, some food supplies; bought an umbrella (Peggy’s was in a small collection of items that inadvertently did not make it into the carry-on bag;) found an English-Russian dictionary; bought covers for our IDs which we flash each time we enter the main university building.

Ian arranged for an internet connection in our apartment. Currently, we can only get on line by being at the main university building. We are a sight checking email in the lobby. Ian directed us to a computer lab where we won’t be quite so conspicuous. Bob is collecting and sending his email near the computer lab where we can pick up a WiFi signal.

Almira took us to coffee later in the afternoon. She and Bob talked about some of the class logistics. She said the students are eager to hear foreigners speak another language. We are eager to talk with them too.
